Kosher Africa

Kosher Africa’s mission statement is to provide an unforgettable, fully Kosher experience, anywhere in Africa.

Our aim is to provide the opportunity for Kosher consumers to travel to the bush, whilst enjoying fully catered, Beth Din-certified Kosher meals. Our ambition is to be able to offer anyone who keeps Kosher the opportunity to travel without the limitations of a lack of facilities to meet their dietary requirements.

In order to fulfil the purpose of the company, Kosher Africa has been working tirelessly with Kosher SA to build and to certify many Kosher kitchens at various lodges throughout South Africa, including Tintswalo Family Camp in Welgevonden Private Game Reserve, and Ivory Tree Lodge in Pilanesberg National Park. We have a few more Kosher kitchens in the works which will be up and running in the near future.

Tanzania has become a popular destination for Kosher travel. Many lodges are committing to making it easier for Kosher clients to visit the beautiful country. Our teams are working determinedly with the hotels and lodges to assist them to build Kosher kitchens in East Africa. With our help, some of the properties have arranged portable Kosher Kits that include fully Kosher equipment to cater for up to twenty people traveling from lodge to lodge.

Doron Gavronsky is a chef who is internationally recognised for his expertise in Kosher fine-dining. Born in South Africa, Doron is the only Kosher chef that travels throughout Africa, preparing delicious, fully Kosher-certified meals across the continent.

Chef Doron is an experienced kitchen consultant who has been hired to help safari lodges to revamp and upgrade their kitchens. He has initiated the building of many Kosher kitchens throughout Africa. Doron trains the staff to prepare top quality dishes that adhere to the highest standards of Kashrut, and to provide a superior level of service to the guests.

Doron aspires to build Kosher kitchens at as many safari lodges as he can, in order to make travelling to the bush more accessible for the global Jewish community. His aim to take the “schlep” out of Kosher safaris so that travellers can fully enjoy their African experience, five-star Kosher food included.

Our team consists of qualified tour operators, marketing managers, chefs, and mashgiachs (Kosher supervisors) that are trained to cater for Kosher clients from around the globe. Their duties include building itineraries, sourcing all food to meet Kosher dietary requirements, Koshering kitchens and all equipment, and arranging accommodation and transport.

Every trip through Kosher Africa has a dedicated mashgiach who is registered with the Beth Din of South Africa. The mashgiach ensures that all cooking equipment and utensils are fully Kosher and are “toivelled” before use. Any Kosher equipment that is stored at the lodges/hotels is sealed by the mashgiach with Kosher tape/tags. Our ground handlers and tour operators source all Kosher dry ingredients locally, or import them from nearby countries. All Kosher dairy, chicken and meat products are flown in from South Africa by our South African logistics team.

The Kosher Africa team works to ensure entirely Kosher and completely authentic safari experiences. Our priority is our clients’ comfort throughout their trip, with the knowledge that their religious requirements are respected and are of utmost importance to every member of the team.
