Our Kosher Kitchens

Our Kosher Kitchens

Kosher Africa has undertaken to Kosher-certify as many lodges as possible, with separate Kosher kitchens throughout Southern Africa, through Kosher SA. The goal is for both international and local Jewish travellers to be able to fully immerse themselves in their safari getaways, without having to worry about their dietary requirements.

In order to achieve this, we work closely with the various Chabad Houses in Africa.

Our Kosher Chefs

Our Kosher chefs are qualified culinary professionals, specialising in preparing Kosher meals according to Jewish dietary laws.

We require that all of our Kosher-trained chefs have in-depth knowledge of the laws of Kashrut. Proficiency in preparing a wide range of Kosher dishes, including meat, dairy, and parev (neither meat nor dairy), is a must. All food is prepared and cooked in a clean, Kosher-certified kitchen. We only use ingredients that are of the highest quality and are Kosher-certified. Our chefs work closely under the supervision of a Beth Din registered mashgiach who ensures that all the relevant laws and regulations of Kashrut are followed.

Kosher Africa’s team of chefs easily adapts to different levels of observance, as well as any other dietary restrictions and preferences. We take pride in our attention to detail and creativity in designing tasty menus. Our Kosher chefs make certain that our guests are served beautiful, delicious and satisfying fully Kosher meals that make for a memorable culinary experience.

Our Beth Din Certified Mashgiachs

A mashgiach, or Kosher supervisor, is a religious Jewish man or woman that supervises the handling, preparation, cooking and serving of all food to ensure that it is in accordance with the standards of Jewish dietary laws, known as Kashrut. Kosher Africa’s mashgiachs are representatives of the Beth Din of South Africa (Kosher SA). Our mashgiachs make sure that every dish prepared by our chefs is 100% Glatt Kosher.

Our mashgiachs keep abreast of the most updated Kashrut practices by participating in refresher courses and being tested by the Rabbonim of the Kashrut Department. South Africa holds a very high standard of Kashrut, and we guarantee that this level of Kashrut will be adhered to on your trip.

The mashgiach will also ensure that there is an eruv in place at your accommodation for Shabbat (if needed).
